Description: Designed as a supersonic superiority fighter jet by the legendary Clarence "Kelly" Johnson in the early 1950's, the Starfighter was the first combat aircraft capable of a sustained Mach 2 in flight, and its speed and climb performance remains impressive even by today's standards. The F-104 was produced in two major versions - when armed with a six-barrel M-61 20mm Vulcan cannon, it served as a tactical fighter and when equipped additionally with heat-seeking Sidewinder missiles, as a day-night interceptor. Because of its length of 54' 9" and wingspan of only 21'11" it was dubbed "a missile with a man in it." The first F-104 made its initial flight in 1954. In December 1959, an F-104C set a world altitude record of 103, 395 feet. The Starfighter was the first aircraft to hold simultaneous official world records for speed, altitude and time-to-climb. The USAF procured approximately 300 Starfighters in one and two-seat versions. In addition, more than 1,700 F-104's were built in the United States and abroad under the military aid program for several nations including Canada, West Germany, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Taiwan and Japan. This F-104G/C Starfighter kit was released by Revell in 1982. The kit is in an open box, a few parts are off sprue but never assembled. Large 1:32 scale kit that features full cockpit, detailed gear wells, cannon bay with optional position hatch, optional tip tanks, AIM-9 Sidewinders, iron bombs or AIM-7 Sparrow missiles. Includes easy-to-follow instructions and decals for USAF Camo/Luftwaffe and Marine/ Denmark/Netherlands/and Belgium Markings.
