Two years after applying for a Texas Historical Commission Official Historical Medallion, La Colombe D'or received a marker in a ceremony last week at the restaurant, at 3410 Montrose Blvd. The Building, constructed in 1923 is the work of architect Alfred C. Finn, noted for his design of the San Jacinto Monument and the Rice Hotel. It was built as a home for the family of Walter Fondren (founder of Humble/Exxon Oil Co.) and was one of the mansions that graced the boulevard during the early part of the century. On hand to celebrate were, from left, Owner Steve Zimmerman, his mother, Sylvia Zimmerman, Allen Cochrum, nephew of Ella Fondren, Al Davis, Chairman, Harris County Historical Commission.
