Coming hot off the tails of the enormously successful 1989 set, Upper Deck strove to extend their lead in the hobby with their sophomore set. Featuring the same high quality card stock, full color pictures on both sides of the card, and anti-counterfeiting hologram technology, 1990 Upper Deck was still far ahead of the curve. In fact, it would be at least another year before the other major card manufacturers offered a comparable product. While it was a massive commercial success, the 1990 set hasn't captured the interest of the secondary market like the 1989 set did. This was most likely due to a combination of a very weak rookie class and a mass overprinting in 1990. That said, Upper Deck still brought innovation in being the first manufacturer to offer a 'chase card' with their 'Find the Reggie' series. Note that 'Find the Reggie' were in upper series boxes, so the boxes offered here don't have any chance of finding one. While not offering a huge value on the secondary market, 1990 Upper Deck is still a great set because it allows you to buy a box for less money than you would have paid in 1990, and you can have all the fun of reliving your youth and rediscovering cards that will trigger so much nostalgia. Printed on extremely high quality card stock with bright, vibrant images on both the front AND the back and with hologram technology to stymie counterfeiters, Upper Deck were greatly ahead of their time. This set has the obvious Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card, which currently sells for about $2k in GEM MT condition as well as a few other rookies, notably Randy Johnson, Craig Biggio, and Gary Sheffield. There's also the cool Nolan Ryan 'football' card that's only available in the high number series, and it's great fun to find one of these in a pack!
