Every Character - 90 cards - WITHOUT FOIL!! Lineage: I know some new, interested buyers may not know if these are authentic. Let me do my best to put that worry to bed. My father was the pre-press manager and was responsible for this set (as well as MM92 and Xmen Series II) inside and out in terms of production. Obviously he did not do the artwork but his “art” was turning the originals into perfectly centered press plates with no errors and ready to be mass produced without production issues. Back in 1990-1993 printing was a lot different than the technology we use today. My father created every printing plate from start to finish…in and out of the darkrooms, constantly finding errors, centering, misprints and correcting them until everything was suitable for mass production. Foiling was a revolutionary new process at the time and added another completely different set of problems/issues when printing - so needless to say he spent 100+ hours a week for years making sure these sets were perfect. I’d go to my football games on Saturday mornings and we would leave from there to go back to his work so he could spend the weekend working. At the time I was 7-10 years old and bored out of my mind - wandering around his room, touring the printing areas and presses, watching Detroit Lions games in the break-room…not really knowing what or why I had to spend my weekends at his work rather than playing with friends like other kids. Well, now I know why - it’s because his hand was so fully imprinted and invested on every card we all love and collect to this day. All that said - my father was provided rare items throughout the process because his work knew he wanted to retain (collect) - nice of them however it was kind of an under-the-table way of them not having to pay for every hour he worked. They needed him to spend every waking moment to hit the release deadlines and he was the only person they knew who cared enough to sacrifice his time in exchange for rare pieces and pay. My father passed away in 2004 when I was 18 and while I have so many conversations I’d like to have with him now - I am fortunate to still have my mom and get a lot of information of that time period from her. From my perspective I was just a bored kid who had to waste my weekends watching him use his exacto-knife on films while stripping plates. But as I got older and started to put the picture together I know now my dad sacrificed his free-time creating the collections millions still seek and collect to this day. While I love my collection - I also have my own family now and know my dad would want these items to be used for their benefit. We are selling them to provide the necessary resources towards the collections my kids are interested in and passionate about. Yes, I am keeping some things more for sentimental reasons - but the rest I feel should be put in the hands of collectors who will continue to appreciate his memory/efforts. He would be so proud to know his work turned into passed down value to his grandchildren as well as all of you who collect his work daily. I am much like him - he passed them on to me and now me onto my kids. They don’t really care for the items so they are just as happy using the money to build what they feel is valuable in their eyes.
