Description: Our client's charming oil on panel dating from the late 18th to early 19th century depicts a lively feast in the street of a small village in the manner of the 17th century genre painters of the southern Netherlands, David Tenniers II (1610-1690) and Adriaen Brouwer (1605-1638), and the later Flemish master, Constantinus Fidelio Coene (1780-1841) who painted during the period of this painting. Apparently unsigned. Board 17 1/4 by 24 1/4 inches. Period giltwood frame 23 by 29 3/4 inches. Prior owner wrote the name BRAUWER on reverse. In this charming scene outside a tavern, peasant revelers dance in the background and a drunken gentleman with woman are collapsing an old wooden bench, upsetting a barrel and its precious Delft blue and white vessel and stein as they fall to the ground, with a gentleman saving the vessel from ruin. In good condition. Stress crack runs horizontally from the right side. Rubbing wear, scuffs, scratches and small losses. Frame with wear consistent with age. Item RS-003. Item sold as-is. All sales final. Prior to using Buy It Now, please contact us so we may confirm availability, as our client has this painting for sale in their retail shop where it may sell at any time. Thank you.
