Description: First edition/ first printing of Alistair MacLean's epic adventure, Force 10 From Navarone. VG/VG in unclipped jacket (Doubleday, 1968). Stated first edition on copyright page without number line as required. Proper J40 code on last page. Not an ex-library nor a remainder. Bright, clean black cloth boards with gold gilt to spine. Minor bumping on right corner. Text block tight, binding square. No internal markings, save for neatly penciled price from bookseller on FFEP. 274 pp. Jacket is bright and clean; illustration still pops. Remarkably, no fading. Light rubbing and small closed tears at spine ends. The original $4.95 price is intact Now protected in mylar (see photos). Very nice copy of MacLean's wildly popular sequel to the classic Guns of Navarone and basis for the hit movie starring Harrison Ford and Robert Shaw as Mallory and Miller. Plucked from the sea as Navarone burns, the operatives are sent behind enemy lines in Yugoslavia to prevent German forces from raiding partisan positions and wiping out the resistance. This wildly inventive thriller was one in a string of movies adapted from MacLean's novels, including Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, Fear is the Key, The Secret Ways, Breakheart Pass, Puppet on a Chain, Bear Island, River of Death and The Satan Bug. MacLean was the undisputed master of adventure and decades after his death, his books continue to influence modern writers, including Lee Child. MacLean's books remain highly collectable.
