1st Edition "AMERICAN STATESMEN" inscribed from Charles F. Adams to D S Jordan

The inscription was to David Starr Jordan the famed 1st president of Stanford University (or more precisely put "The Leland Stanford Jr. University". Beyond that as evidenced by its' catalog number it was an early entrant into the university library. Note the early stamped admission date from the library of May 27, 1900. With a 1st edition 1900 publication date, this virtually assures that this book was one of the very first printed and sent out through the hands of Adams to Jordan. perhaps the common interests in nature from Adams position with the Massachusetts Parks Commission and Jordans accomplishments as a noted Ichthyologist led to a relationship and friendship long before Jordans' appointment as president of Stanford.In any case a tremendous level of personal history between all involved is captured within the pages of this great little book.
