Both novels are illustrated with black and white photos from the first film versions of the novels. The Barrier was first filmed in 1913 and these pictures are from that first film. It was filmed again in 1917 and most notably in 1926 where Lionel Barrymore played the main character, Stark Bennett. The Spoilers was first filmed in 1914 and this book’s illustrations are from that movie. The film is set in Nome, Alaska during the 1898 Gold Rush, with William Farnum as Roy Glennister, Kathlyn Williams as Cherry Malotte, and Tom Santschi as Alex McNamara. The film culminates in a spectacular saloon fistfight between Glennister and McNamara. In 1916, an expanded version was released, running 110 minutes. CONDITION: These hard-cover books are in good-acceptable condition. There are no dust jackets. The greenish cloth hardcovers have some soiling and spotting and show light wear at the corners and spine ends. The Barrier has some penciling on the front endpaper. The interiors of both books are otherwise good. All pages and illustrations are present. The paper is toned with age. The hinges and bindings of both books are good.
