Description: Offered are these two antique books by Edgar Allan Poe. Included are: 1) "Selections from the Prose Tales of Edgar Allan Poe", published in 1919 by the Macmillan Co. in New York. The book includes notes and an introduction (see photo #4 for contents). There is one black and white illustration, a frontispiece photo of Poe, with facsimile signature. The book is approx. 5 5/8" x 4 1/4" and contains 343 pages, not including additional pages advertising other books by the publisher. It is in fair to good condition. The hard brown cover has moderate wear, with numerous areas of light brown blotchiness. The gold words on the front are still mostly shiny but the black words on the spine are difficult to read. There is no cracking inside either the front or back cover. The brown endpapers in the back are mostly clean but have some words written inside the back cover. The front brown endpaper page is missing and there are additional words written inside the front cover. Otherwise I see no missing or torn pages and all are well-attached to the binding. They have browned moderately but are otherwise mostly clean. There are a few underlinings, etc. but otherwise I see no writing in the body of the book; however, someone has drawn a humorous picture, with caption on the half-title page (see photo #2). and 2) "Poems and Tales of Edgar Allan Poe", published in 1907 by Scott, Foresman & Co. in Chicago. The contents were selected and edited by Alphonso G. Newcomer (see photo #11 for contents). This may be a rare find; at the time of original listing I could not find another copy of this book for sale on eBay or anywhere else. The book is approx. 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" and contains 323 pages, including the notes and glossary. It is in fair to good condition. The hard cover has light to moderate wear to most of the surface, with some spots, but extensive wear to the spine, which is mostly worn off. The black words on the front are still visible. There is no cracking inside either the front or back cover. The white endpapers have yellowed. The name and address of a former owner is written inside the front cover, as well as several other words and numbers. I see no missing or torn pages and all are well-attached to the binding. They have browned moderately bur are otherwise mostly clean. I see no writing in the body of the book. I have a lot of experience with vintage and antique books but am not an expert so please let me know if my description is missing information and you have additional questions.
