Description: There is something nice and special about the people who love plants .*.*. Welcome to my Beautiful World of Gardening! .*.*. You will receive: Two starter plants of beautiful and hardy perennial Tatarian Asters. They are 4" to 16" above the roots (during spring and summer, as described below). Usually I trim off older leaves. This way the root system will easier support the remaining young leaves during the stressful and possibly dehydrating shipping/delivery days. As soon as you receive the plants - please put their roots in a cup with water for 24 hours. After that the plant is ready for the moist soil in a pot or your moist garden soil (no direct sun or hot weather for the first 1 month). During spring time, the plant produces bright green leaves.During summer, leaves have bug bites and holes (all bugs are created equal and they are allowed to eat leaves).November-December is the time when leaves turn yellow and fall on the ground. The plant goes dormant for the winter. Around this time I trim the stem. The most important part - roots with some stem will be shipped to you. During winter I will ship roots only (no leaves, and no real stem). What is so special about Tatarian Asters? * These tall and strong plants do NOT need any staking! Imagine a nice privacy fence formed by these plants!* Hardy, require very little care. * They look very distinct and different from other garden plants. * In Virginia they start blooming in the second half of September.* You will enjoy their fall-season shiny-green leaves and purple flowers when all other plants are no longer blooming. These plants are tall, conical shape, with almost shiny thick leaves. Amazingly, but you don't need stakes to support these tall plants!Truly eye-catching easy-to-grow plant. Apparently, not very well known to the gardeners. This tall, late-flowering aster attracts butterflies and blooms for many weeks. The flowers are a magnet for local and migrating monarch butterflies. These cheerful plants produce many plain-looking but beautiful, purple-bluish flowers before the first frost. Oftentimes, these are the last flowers you would see before winter comes.Mature people will appreciate sentimental flavor in the last sentence. :) The plants are rapidly growing, tall, reaching 5-6 ft. May serve as a summer privacy fence.Require little care. Disease resistant. They like sunny and semi-shade locations.Perennial. Deer and rabbits don't eat them.I am not sure who else sells these great plants. The two plants will come with their roots wrapped in moist media. (60-90 cm)Hardiness: USDA Zone 3a: to -39.9 °C (-40 °F) to USDA Zone 8b: to -9.4 °C (15 °F)In Virginia, they are dormant over the winter. Winter time: these plants are shipped in the form of bulbs with roots as shown in the photos including Photo #2. Typically, each bulb has several "shoots" or "eyes" and will produce several stems. Spring-summer: these plants are shipped with green leaves. Usually the bulbs are smaller than during winter shipments, but they have a system of white roots. The leaves may have bug holes (in the nature, someone is always eating something). The plants’ distinctive lavender blooms are a sure sign that autumn has arrived at the park. The species Aster tataricus is one of the 50 fundamental herbs in traditional Chinese herbology, where its root has been used historically as an expectorant for respiratory infections. More recently, it has also shown to have strong antimicrobial properties, including inhibiting growth of staph bacteria and E. coli. Tatarian aster, are a favorite of fall pollinators. Buzzing around the small purple-petalled blooms you’ll find Monarch butterflies and several varieties of bees. Tatarian aster is an impressive, stately perennial with a flowering height of 3 to 6 feet. It can look you in the eye yet require no staking. More important, this aster flowers longer than any other garden aster, beginning in late September and early October and continuing into November. The 1-inch-wide, light lavender flowers are a magnet for local and migrating monarch butterflies. This plant tolerates many soil types, can form large colonies in a few years, and is easily divided. Will be delivered from a nice garden, 20 miles from Fredericksburg, Virginia. After You Received Your PlantPlease note that the plants are traveling to your address in boxes. This means that they are in the dark for days – not exactly a normal condition for the plants. If you take a stressed plant from the box and put it under direct sunlight – most likely the sunlight will burn its leaves. If you spray/mist the leaves under direct sunlight – water droplets will act like optical lenses, focusing sunlight and burning the leaves. If you quickly expose the plant to the outdoor heat – it will damage the plant. Basically, these are the easy ways to kill the poor plant after it was tortured by the mail carrier. If you want the plant to stay alive, please (1) give it a lot of water and (2) keep it in the shade for 7-10 days.Typically, when I receive a new plant, I put the roots in a jar with water for 24-48 hours. Then I move it to a pot with good potting soil. I keep the soil soggy for 1 week. Sometimes I trim off the lower leaves – too many older leaves put too much stress on the roots. I use a water bottle to spray the remaining leaves. After that I start exposing the plant to periods of direct sunlight outdoors, and only after that I would put the plant in the garden soil. I would water it every day for the next 7 days. After that the plant is ready to adjust on its own. These are not “the instructions to follow” … this is a common knowledge.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you buy my plants, you agree with the following terms and conditions.
