Description: St. Louis CDVs set of 2 handsome men suits watch chains great poses by Strauss Even if I didn't know what a renowned photographer J.C. Strauss was, I could tell by the personality shown in these photos! Each of the men has his own style, and both have confidence and character aplenty! One of the cards has "Strauss" on the card front beneath the image. The other does not. On the reverse of each card is printed:"StraussPhotographer,1313 Franklin Ave.St. Louis" Julius Caesar Strauss moved to the studio at this address in 1879 and moved to another, custom-designed studio in 1896, so we can pretty precisely date these images. Each card measures 4 x 2.5 inches, and is thick cardboard. The one without the front marking has beveled and gilded edges. Overall yellowing to card & image. Fading to images. Light soiling and surface scratching to both. Images are in nice focus. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.
