Description: 2 Vintage Steak Meat Branding Irons Tools Rustic Wood Handles Letters M R Description and Item Information Up for sale is this lot of two old steak branding irons. Please excuse any glare in the photos. Each of these has a wooden handle with a long shaft that culminates in a metal letter; the letters are also impressed into the ends of the wooden handles so that the user can easily differentiate them. These tools were intended to be used to indicate the doneness barbecued meat. One letter is an "M" (corresponding the "medium"), but it could be used as a "W" (for "well") if flipped over; the user would have to remember which side was up. The other tool has an "R" (in reverse, of course, corresponding to "rare"). Each is approximately 16 3/8 inches long. Each handle has a drilled hole with a piece of tied string through it, for hanging. The unpacked weight of the two piece together is 1 pound 3.7 ounces. These would be neat display pieces for a rustic Western ranch decor. Identification These tools are vintage, or maybe even antique, but the exact age is not known. It looks as if there are remnant markings on the handles, but they are worn so it is difficult to make them out. Condition These looks good overall, as shown. The shaft of the R tool has a minor bend in it. The wood handles are worn, with cracks, losses, and marks. The hanging strings are soiled and worn.
