Description: Test Parisian Gherkin Cucumber Check out our other listings! Parisian Gherkin is an excellent mini cucumber and one of a very few organic varieties to win the AAS Vegetable Award. Best picked at the midget or small pickle stage (2 to 4 inches long and roughly 1 to 2 ounces in weight). Fruits are sweet and crisp. While they make for a delicious and refreshing afternoon snack when eaten raw or sliced, their true claim to fame is how well they hold up during pickling. If you're looking for a gourmet pickle for special occasions or just everyday noshing, you've certainly found it! Semi-vining plants grow to about 10 or 12 inches in height and set around two dozen fruits per plant. They grow and produce fruits quickly, and are an excellent choice for patio or container growing. Resistant to cucumber mosaic virus, scab, and powdery mildew. 50 days to maturity. Cucumber Germination Guide Before sowing, consider soaking your cucumber seeds in warm water overnight. Try out the paper towel method for this! Cucumber seeds are pretty tough, so soaking before planting will help speed up the germination time. Select the soil and container in which to start your seeds. For soil, use a seed starting mix for the best results. You may also use a soil-less potting mix, which is cheaper and widely available at most garden centers. For the container, use cell packs or a small pot three to four inches tall to start your seeds. Fill your container with potting mix to within 1 inch of the top. Place a single seed on top of the soil near the center of the pot, one seed per pot. Cover the seeds with about 1/2 inch layer of potting mix. Gently press the soil down with your fingers to ensure good contact between the seed and soil. Cover pots with plastic or a seeding dome to increase humidity and raise the temperature of the soil. Cucumber seeds require a soil temperature between 60°F and 90°F, so consider using a heating mat to provide the seeds with the necessary heat for germination. Sprinkle or mist water on the seeds whenever the top of layer of soil appears dry. Be careful not to overwater! Soggy soil may cause the seeds to rot. Remove the plastic or seed dome from the the pot/trays once the seedlings have germinated. Once the seedlings have grown three to four true leaves you may transplant them to your garden.
