Description: #20 Silica Sand - Safe for Carnivorous Plants! This silica sand is the same kind used in our nursery. It is #20 grade so it is coarse enough to provide drainage without becoming compacted which is important for many carnivorous plants. It also makes an excellent top-dressing to inhibit fungus gnats and help reduce the growth of algae. Granule size may be more or less uniform from one batch to the next. Some bags have larger pieces mixed in while others contain a more consistent size of #20 grit. This sand seems to contain very few impurities, however mineral content can vary from one batch to the next so rinsing with distilled water prior to use is still advisable.
