Description: This is a stunning and rare cityscape abstraction hand-embellished, Cubist-style Giclee by artist, Dominic Pangborn, and it is double-signed (front and back) and numbered — 73/95 — created in 2006. The title of this gorgeous Giclee is "American Icon — City Lights". Detroit-based artist, Pangborn, translates the energy of a bustling city into a series of colored, hand-painted and embellished shapes and planes. Pangborn employs color not just to highlight the composition, but he makes it the protagonist of the composition, rendering a most complex city into its fundamental parts. A Giclee is an authorized copy of the original artwork by the artist that has been hand-embellished by said artist. A Giclee is quite special, as the artist chooses them. These Giclee prints are quite desirable and valuable due to the high-quality materials used in the printing process, the limited-edition nature of the images, the artist's choice of representation and placement of the Giclee technique, and the expertise required to produce them. Basically, Giclee is the process of the artist hand-painting and embellishing over areas of the image to apply brush strokes, establish dimension and enhance color. With his use of Cubism (used by many artists such as Picasso), Pangborn had the ability to depict subjects in every dimension finitely possible. These artists were able to deconstruct the angles, lines and shapes that order our lives, lifting them from their neat upbringing and casting them into a fractured prism. The Giclee itself is in incredible condition. The heavy, square, black frame has some scratches on some parts, but that could easily be remedied with a paint touch up. This is signed on the front left bottom corner by Pangborn, as well as numbered, 73/95. The unique thing about this is that on the back, it has a signed message, "My Best Wishes", along with a large signature of Pangborn. The back paper does have a tear above the personalization and signature, along with a few other small tears, but the message and signature are intact. It has a wire hanging, and a sticker from the framing company. This is a must-have collector's piece for Dominic Pangborn fans, collectors of Giclee or cubist-style art, or anyone who is just as fascinated with this gorgeous piece as I am! It is quite amazing! This measures 21" square with the beveled wood frame, and the Giclee itself is 13.5" square. See all photos to view the amazing application Pangborn used to create this masterpiece. In addition, I had this art work professionally appraised by Dr. Lori Verderame, a renowned antiques and art appraiser, and I have included her value ($750) and appraisal email from our video call (see last photo).
