Description: London 2012 Olympic Games2009 Blue Peter 50p - Winner's Edition It is worth understanding the history of this coin to understand its rarity, compared to the other 50p coins. The Royal Mint decided to let the public design the 29 different 50p coins, representing Olympic and Paralympic Sports, through a competition back in 2009. The coins were released in 2011 and hence dated 2011, the year before the event. The Athletics design competition was run by the children's programme Blue Peter, with the High Jump design the winner. The coin for sale here is a special presentation pack version released in 2009 (standard finish but not circulated), ahead of the coin that went into general release in 2011. The key is the 2009 version has an estimated mintage of just 20,000 (there doesn't seem to be an official figure) compared to the 2.2 million for the 2011 version, similar to the other sports 50p coins. Also it is sealed and uncirculated, so in better condition. For comparison on its rarity, the other lowest mintage for a 50p coin is the famous 2009 Kew Gardens at 128,000 Brilliant Uncirculated and 210,000 Circulated. Postage will be the fully insured Royal Mail Special Delivery. Any questions please ask.
