Especially in our hyper-disposable world, where Twitter posts and Facebook "likes" are thrown around with wild abandon, what is permanent? Can there be a notion of a "lasting" impression when societal pressure dictates we should all skidattle from one moment to the next? We took this opportunity to step back, explore, collect, question, consider and observe the concept of permanence-with the help of some Pratt students who are well-versed in the concept. Bouncing between group exercises, focused individual research and back, we left it to the workshop participants to unearth artifacts from our seismic social climate, composed as a nonlinear narrative of drawings, criticisms, photographs, writing, and imagery. This multidimensional book is a reflection of that time, that effort, what they learned. Nothing, not even a fire, can take that away.
