Description: "Fish and fishing boats" by Bill Payne.Of all the post war Cornish artists, Joan Gillchrest ranks very highly. She was the L.S.Lowry of the Penwith peninsula. She observed the locals in talk, with their dogs and cats and the coastline and buildings. Her cats were all called Titus. She often hung out in the Lobster Pot .She could be difficult but had a sense of fun and good humour. Her works are sought after and collectable. She lived in Mousehole. This is a woodcut in her genre and of Mousehole. I made this up! The clouds were clumpy ,the sky mottled and the sea flecked with white. The boats were in primary colours. All jolly scenes. Some day I might afford a work of hers. Limited edition of 10,signed and dated,12"X8".By Bill Payne, born in 1951 and living in Worcestershire. If you go to buy a Joan Gillchrest artwork, The Wren gallery in Burford is a wonderful place to see Joan's art and buy from the lovely gallery owner. This is a homage to Joan Gillchrest but maybe a bit of fun! 7 sold.
