Description: 2023 SARRACENIA SEEDS: (LEUCOPHYLLA PURPLE LIPS X FLAVA ORNATA) X PURP HYBRID [CARNIVOROUS PLANT SEED] Code: 27: 23HH05 This listing includes: One pack of approximately 30 Sarracenia seeds from the following cross: Mother (pod) plant: S. leucophylla purple lips x flava ornata Father (pollen) plant: S. purpurea hybrid Dark, dark, dark! The mother plant is a sibling to the famed S. Saurus and is a strong grower for me. The upper parts of the pitchers get dark after maturing, especially in late fall and winter. It also produces a strong spring and fall crop of pitchers. I pollinated this plant with pollen from a plant I created back around 2010. The father plant is suspected to be S. purpurea x ‘Judith Hindle’. Regardless of ID, this purp hybrid makes pitchers year-round and gets very dark in late fall and winter. The pitchers are retained long into winter as well. Combine that with the mother plant’s ability to also do this and you are likely to get offspring that make dark pitchers in the fall that last most, if not, all of winter… long after all of the pitchers on your other Sarrs have died and browned. Let’s not even get started on the interesting shapes the offspring will exhibit. A very exciting cross. 1st picture shows the two parent plants. 2nd picture shows the mother (pod) parent. 3rd picture shows the father (pollen) parent. 4th picture shows an example of the seeds you will get (not the quantity). 5th picture shows an example of how I bag my Sarracenia flowers in the spring. This cross was made in the Spring of 2023 and the seeds were harvested in Fall of 2023. The cross was done carefully by hand. All manual crosses had bagged flowers to avoid any unwanted pollen contamination by nature. After harvest and drying in the Fall, the seeds have been stored dry in the fridge to maximize longevity and viability. I have been growing Sarracenia for 15 years and my goal is to make quality seeds and plants affordable to anyone that is interested in growing these amazing plants.
