Offered is a submarine first day cover postmarked from Freedom, ME dated April 10, 2023. Blue printed photo cachet # 2926 by Alvin Eckert #9964 USCS. This fine vessel earned nine WW II Battle Stars and is credited with the highest total tonnage of sunken enemy ships. She was lost off northern Hokkaido on 7 Nov 1944 possibly to an enemy mine. Cover franked with a 63 cent flag stamp # 5788 (FDOI) and a 29 cent WW II Submarine stamp # 2838e from 2000. The submarine stamps currently costs over $2 each.
