The SS Jim Bridger was a 441 foot WW II Liberty Ship named in her honor, built in 1942 in Portland, OR. The proud new vessel transported vital supplies to US and Allied Forces overseas during WW II. The ship participated in the Normandy landings in 1944, was placed in reserve in 1945, and sunk as an artificial fishing reef off Port O'Connor, Texas in 1976.
