The pictures come from "Monthly Maxims; Rhymes and Reasons to Suit the Seasons" published by Thomas de la Rue & Co. in 1882. The size of the pictures is about 15.1 cm x 15.2 cm with margins of 2.9 cm or greater. The months shown, in order, are December, October, and November. Robert Dudley was a well-regarded and prolific Victorian artist and illustrator. His RD monogram is shown in plate for each picture. He exhibited no fewer than 24 times at the Royal Academy.
