Description: This is a newer smaller flock with a rooster weighing in at 1 lb 9 ounces and the hens weighing in at 1 lbs 8 ounces. I can send you photos upon request of these friendly little chickens. Cochin hens lay light to dark beige (almost orange) eggs daily. My breeding roos and hens are under 2 years old with lots of fertile years left. Please note that hens are born with the full number of eggs they will lay in a lifetime. They grow them to a size that can be laid based on their internal biology (cochins daily). I don't add artificial light and allow them to raise their young, so they can recover and extend their egg laying years (while fulfilling their calling to be a mom). The chickens include a black frizzled rooster over golden laced, black, and cuckoo hens.Only the cuckoo cochin can be sex-linked, but I will not select eggs exclusively from her. Her larger deep orange eggs stand out from the other beige colored eggs.This group is gold based for a beautiful variation of green highlights and gold, black, cuckoo colors. SEXING CHICKS Cochins sexed by comb, behavior, sound, and crest as early as 1 month and as late as 3 months in the first generation satins. Some of the young satins will emit barely audible kazoo-like crow at 1 month (that will be audible at 5-6 months). First generation satins chicks can be sexed at an earlier age can be seen with hens Dawn, Peep and Sweet. All others will be silkie or second generation satins that can be sexed from 3 to 5 months. HEALTH My chickens and chicks eat top quality food and supplements. All bantams receive great care and repay with daily eggs of differing shapes and colors. The adult bantams are all parasite and disease free and see an avian vet for check-ups quarterly. The eggs will include a mixture of bantams that will weigh 2-3 lbs for hens and 3-4 lbs for roosters.These eggs are fresh, stored large side up, and unwashed to ensure maximum hatching. My home hatches have been 100% with my girls. These eggs have not been under a hen and will require 21 days to hatch. COLORS AND FEATHER TYPES The colors and breeds include Silkie Paint, Black Frizzled Satin, Lemon Blue Cochin, Blue Cochin, and Partridge Satin. The feathering can be Silkie, frizzle Silkie, Satin, and frizzled Satin. Usually with frizzles half of the progeny will end up with curly feathers. TEMPERAMENT Bantam Cochins are sweet, gentle, and very docile toward everyone and everything. They seem to enjoy attention and will follow you for food. They may even chirp to indicate they want to go indoors with you. These little chickens can be kept indoors on dog pads or outdoors to forage for bugs behind a 4 ft gate. SUCCESSFUL HATCHING (FOR NEWBIES) These are important steps you must consider if you want to have a better hatch rate with your shipped eggs. 1 Never put shipped eggs directly into the incubator when you receive them. Eggs should sit pointy side down at room temperature for 24 hours. 2 Put a small container of water beside the carton to help to rehydrate the eggs because they lose humidity during the shipping process. 3 If you feel the need of washing your eggs, do not do so until you are ready to put them in the incubator. Use a warm damp cloth and some apple cider vinegar to clean. Do not use chemicals, soap, or soak the eggs. Do not use hot water. Dry with a clean towel immediately after before you put into the incubator. 4. Candle the eggs to see how the air pockets look and where they are. If they are good, you will see a very small air pocket at the top. When hatching eggs are shipped, they can have detached air cells and the yolks can be off center. Giving them humidity and time to settle. 5. Buy a Govee Thermometer/Hydrometer to monitor your incubator from your phone. I own multiple Govees to monitor my incubators and brooders. You will know before you arrive home if your incubator is lower on water. 6. Eggs should be turned for the first 18 days and remain still for the remaining 3. Use 50% humidity until they are ready to hatch, then increase to 70% humidity. Eggs are best kept at 99.7-100.5 degrees F throughout the whole incubation. Always candle your eggs and photograph any issues you see in the eggs within 24 hours after the eggs arrive. I am here to help you troubleshoot from the photos you send me.
