Description: 3 Very Fine Antique Hindu Chhapa Body Stamps attached as a set by a copper loop. These are used by Brahmin priests to confer blessings of the deity - usually Lord Shiva or Lord Vishnu upon the devotee. Traditionally Sandalwood is ground into a paste on a stone carved for that purpose and with a little water or sacred oil added, it was applied to the stamp and then onto the body of the devotee. Nowadays it is often the case that sandalwood paste is purchased ready made for instant use. A red paste is also made from red Sanders wood in the same manner as is a red paste made from Vermilion 'Kumkum' powder. For secret 'Tantric' rituals other secret substances are sometimes used.
