Description: This listing is for 3 x colour antique maps of Northumberland originally published in the 1600's, 1830's and 1840. They are NOT PHOTOCOPIES but are book plates taken from 3 different books of maps which were printed in the 1980's and 90's. The maps are as follows: 1. John Speed map which was originally printed in the 1600's. There is also a small plan of Newcastle and Berwick on the map. Overall it measures 15" x 11" (38cm x 28cm). This map is printed on good quality paper but as it is from a book it is on 2 seperate pieces of paper. The join between the 2 pages is very good, check the photos for more details. The map is beautiful, the colours are vibrant and overall it's in very good condition. On the rear is the description of the map and the area as it was in the 1600's. John Speed’s maps were the first to show all counties of Britain with towns, villages and boundaries as they were at the time as they were at the time of Elizabeth I. With the first known ‘aerial’ maps of towns, illustrations of battles, portraits of royalty, they are considered to be an elaborate work of art. 2. Thomas MOULE map originally published in 1830's. The page measures approximately 9" x 12" (check the photos) and the map has been printed onto good thick quality paper. As it is from a book there is a description of another map on the back of the paper, but I will include a photocopy of the description of this map in the listing.Thomas MOULE was one of the most distinctive and best-loved of early Victorian mapmakers and he first published his maps in 1830. His work is often compared to his 17th century predecessor John Speed. 3. Pigot map originally published in 1840 for the book 'British Atlas, Counties of England'. This was described as one of the most detailed country atlases of the period. There is a very detailed descriptive text accompanying this map which contains vital historical data from the time of the Industrial Revolution. This map measures approximately 12.5" x 8". All 3 maps will be sent in a cardboard backed envelope to avoid any damage in transit. I have a couple of these maps framed on my walls at home and can say with all honesty that they look fabulous! Please ask if you have any questions or want more information.Thank you
