Description: Baron Georges Cuvier was a French scientist and zoologist, sometimes referred to as the "father of paleontology". Cuvier was a major figure in natural sciences research in the early 19th century and his work is considered to be one of the foundations of the study of Natural History. He was one of the first scientists to suggest the earth had been dominated by reptiles, rather than mammals, in prehistoric times. Baron Cuvier is honored by having streets named after him in most major French cities, and Rue Cuvier in Paris runs next to the French Museum of Natural History and The Paris Botanical Gardens. His is one of the 72 names inscribed on the Eiffel Tower.
