Description: All of these historical documents and autograhs that I am listing came out of a 19th century scrapbook that I purchased about 30 years ago. I am finally getting around to removing many of the items which includes numerous historical autographs, and paper ephemera. I have not authenticated any of these but some have information on them which will give you information on age. If you’re interested in historical paper, autographs etc please bookmark my site as I have a lot more to list. This auction is four silhouettes 3 of which are members of the Wistar family of Philadelphia. Each of these are cut paper with a light blue background paper that I’m told is quite rare. Each has the impressed Museum stamp under the bust which indicates that these were done at the Peale museum in Philadelphia. The names are identified in pencil as follows: R. Wistar, S. Wistar, E ( or C) Wistar and E. Williams. The Williams silhouette has a tear in the paper under the bust. Some stains and some remnants of scrapbook paper in reverse of one. I’m guessing that the man might be Richard Wistar (1756-1821) a merchant and prominent Professor of Chemistry. He was a member of the Society of Friends who was disowned by the Society for advocating taking up arms to defend one’s house during the Revolutionary War. I’m guessing the one of the women was Elizabeth Williams (1784-1864) who married Nathan Harper whose scrapbook these were found in. See my other listings for silhouettes of the Harper family.
