Description: Set of five striking handpainted lusterware salad dessert plates featuring a tropical bird, cherry blossoms and a water scene in vivid shades of blue and red and yellow. Approximately 7.25 inches. Stunning. I have also included one solo tea cup. No chips or cracks. Excellent vintage condition. Lusterware is so beautiful and relatively affordable art. From the stamp on the back this set appears to be made by Hotta Yu Co. The use of the word “Shoten” means “shop which sells wares fired from its own kilns“. The pottery is likely to be from the 1920-30’s. Lustreware (or Lusterware) is a pottery that has been in production since the 13th century incorporating a metallic glaze that gives that signature special effect of iridescence. The final glaze lustre is usually composed of different metallic ingredients. I collect lusterware and this set would be an outstanding collection on its own or combined with other pieces- please see my other items that would complement this set beautifully. I am a treasure hunter and seek items that will bring joy to every day living. I research items and represent them to the best of my knowledge but I am not an expert on any product. Please use your own judgement when evaluating pieces for purchase. Thank you for looking! Item#B491110
