Five children and two hounds of hell later, we are scrambling to keep me out of the sun and restore the smallest doggie to health while keeping five children under thumb and running an entertainment company. Twenty years went by without a diagnosis, though I was unable to tolerate the sun, suffered from anemia, but the worst was the pain in my joints and muscle spasms that made it look like bones had broken. My markers were off, and I saw everyone from oncologists to dieticians as the disease attacked my thyroid, lungs, and digestive system. It was clear something was wrong but figuring it out was beyond their scope. Advice to anyone living with symptoms with no diagnosis- keep looking for better doctors. 23&me found half my problem, a rheumatologist found the other half (sharps disease and Mediterranean fever)- not something anyone could catch fortunately, but faulty genes aggravated by sun exposure. So, I stay inside unless under an umbrella or hoodie. To my credit, limiting sun exposure makes me look a decade or so younger than I really am-perks, right.Go figure, after my own medical battles I would adopt a puppy with a battle of his own. Maybe your vibe attracts your tribe, even if it's a different species, but when I met Mooshu he was in terrible shape. He looked like I felt before my diagnosis. Most of all, he needed me. I guess that was enough, I was sold.Pupdate 11/21/24: Our newest puppy, Mooshu, came to us in rough shape. Within the first 24 hours we had him at the vet for treatment and thought we were in the clear. His infirmity reappeared about a month later, but after more aggressive treatment he recovered. We have him on a prescriptive diet, supplements, and thought we had figured it out and he was in the clear. Unfortunately, over the weekend he suffered a major bleed and ended up in the emergency vet for immediate treatment. We got some more information on his condition, which is good, but his prognosis is more of the same. His current bills are over $5000, and it is highly likely he will continue to require treatment with blood and plasma ad lib.
