Description: Ground Rubber Flake Non - Slip Grit 7 full lbs. This is enough to add to approx. 2 gallon of paint. e Ground Rubber Grit - non slip particles Ground rubber is generally added to paints and epoxies to provide a non slip - rough surface. . This is virgin rubber. NOT recycled. Very clean Does not attract heat like darker colored additives. The rubber particles can come in many different sizes. Thicker coating need larger grit sizes as smaller grit will 'get lost' in the thick coating and provide little or no texture. Also you want a different texture/grit size for bare feet in a shower stall compared to a fishing boat deck often covered with fish parts, fish oil and fish scales. Generally group rubber grit is applied to coatings in two ways. ONE- it is mixed into the paint/epoxy and roller or brush on to the surface. TWO - the surface is rollered or brush painted and the chips are sprinkled on to the wet coating. It might be a little bit of grit sprinkled on, or the rubber grit might completely cover the coating with none of the coating showing through. This is called 'broadcasting to excess". After the coating dries/cures, any loose, excess rubber grit is brushed or blown off. Usually a thin sealing coat is then applied over the top of the rubber grit to seal them in place. As a reference to size, this one is about the size of ground rock salt. each particle is about 1/10 x 1/5 of an inch. it gives you a very thick like matt in the paint. Note that Methods One and Two result in two very different looking surfaces. The sprinkled rubber grit on top generally as a rougher finish then when the rubber grit is mixed into the coating.
