Description: For sale are these seven (7) track and field medals awarded at The City Meet in Amarillo, Texas for 1961, 1962 and 1963. I acquired these medals recently along with lots of other track medals, a few plaques and some track charms. In the early 1960's, Texas high schools had only the sophomores, juniors and seniors. The freshmen were in the "middle school" building. All of the other items I got at the same time as these medals have either 1961, 1962 or 1963 on them if they are dated. In 1963, a senior in high school would be 18, so this runner was almost assuredly born in 1945 after "Dad" returned from WWII. The runner finished first in the 100 yard dash in all three years and received a gold medal each year. In 1962 and 1963, he came in first in the 220 yard dash and was awarded a gold medal in those two years in that event. He was part of the relay team in 1962 and 1963 that came in second in both those years and he was awarded a silver medal in both those years in that event. These medals are about an inch and a half long and have a noticeable heft. I weighed one and it is 6/10ths of an ounce. I have not attempted to clear the surface of these medals.
