Description: Sculpted by Gary CasteelSize: 4” x 6” x 11” Weight: 2.7lbs 1863 Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Monument Replicas Former Prussian Army Officer Colonel Adolf von Hartung of the German 74th Pennsylvania commanded the regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg and took a bullet in the leg on July 1, 1863. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander von Mitzel would not retreat until it was almost too late, and was captured in the retreat through town. Command of the regiment then fell to Captain Henry Krauseneck. In January of 1864 Krauseneck was brought up on charges of cowardice for his conduct at Gettysburg; he was found guilty and allowed to resign. “To have been a member of the Seventy-fourth Pennsylvania is a prouder distinction than any patent of nobility that king or potentate might confer,” said a veteran at the monument’s dedication. The monument was badly damaged by an automobile in the fall of 2003; however, it has been restored. The monument is located on Howard Avenue, in Gettysburg, PA, and was dedicated on July 2, 1888.
