Description: Presented is a fine set of 8 English, sterling silver coffee or demitasse spoons. Six of the spoons are matching and the other two are similar. The six matching were made in London by George Smith and Thomas Hayter in 1795. The other 2 spoons were made in 1796. All of the spoon handles are hand engraved with bright cut decoration. 2 of the spoons have never been monogrammed and the other 6 have an old monogram of the initials WB. All of the spoons bear a duty mark of the King George's head, the lion passant for sterling silver purity. 2 of the spoons bear a date letter A for the year 1796. The other 6 spoons bear a date letter u for the year 1795 and a maker’s mark for George Smith II and Thomas Hayter. This set is in excellent overall condition, especially for their age and the engravings are crisp. One bowl has a couple of tiny dings to it. Length: 5 inches. Weight: 94 grams or 3.3 ounces.
