Description: 9th Plate Ambrotypes of Mrs. Smith & Daughter Annie - West Chester, Pa. Later 1850s. I believe this is Mrs. Smith. The pattern of the leatherette case is identical used with several of the girls portraits. Only a half leatherette case for mother. Very good images, flaking of the black backing reverse side of glass images. (THIS MEMO IS FOR ALL SMITH FAMILY AND RELATED LOTS BEING OFFERED ON EBAY) The family was from West Chester, Pa.; and the father was Charles Smith. These sisters had 4 brothers, two of which served in the Civil War. (John MacDonald Smith) was killed during the war, his body never recovered. The other brother who served was George Smith, and was an officer in the US Colored Infantry). Another brother Luther Halsey Smith, was a seafaring, business man, who for a while lived in San Francisco. The other brother I don't know other than is first name started with a Z. Sorry, the archives of the family photography was pretty poor, most of the the Civil War material was sold off. I will give what names I have. I'm selling images at this point, research is on the buyer.
