Apparently the son of Charles Swain Thomas, an Indiana University English professor (one who knew how and why to publish poetry). The change in the author's lifespan is important: Youths aged 22 years old died by the millions in the immediate post war period. The author may have been a US Navy sailor, though the poetry we've read isn't specific. Lots of doubt to the biography due to misprints and lack of book sales.
