Description: OUR DESCRIPTION Large Size and Rare John Gentile Frit "OLD GLORY" Art Glass Paperweight in Very Poor Condition. Every side has damage to it. The flag has 13 Stars and that would make the date of the flag from June 14th, 1777 to May 1st, 1795. Now that is not when this paperweight was created. I am guessing here that it was made in the 1950's or there abouts. I was told that not many were made and I saw another dealer selling one in mint condition here on eBay for $395.00 but, it didn't sell so, it's probably way over priced. It is multi Faceted but most if not all of the 17 various size facets has dings and nicks to them. The Letter G in Glory is partly missing. I am guessing here and it's so nicked and dinged up I think someone rolled this lovely paperweight up and down the street a few times. I would consider this Lovely Work of Art Glass to be in Very Poor Original Vintage Condition. This one is unmarked but is attributed to the John Gentile Glass Company. I have added a Short History about John Gentile below for your convenience if by chance you weren't aware of his background. No collection is complete with having a few John Gentile Paperweights in it. The slightly concave bottom shows major dings and chips all over. This is a bit larger than a MAGNUM Size Paperweight and it measures 3-3/8" Diameter by 3" Tall and weighs almost 2 pounds all by itself. Please check pictures for further description. The Stand is not part of this sale and is only used here for illustrative purposes. I will Consider any Reasonable Offers on this Wonderful Antique Art Glass Paperweight and Thank You for Looking. Please do not miss my many other lovely Art Glass Paperweight Auctions by various Well Known and Famous Artists. Short History of Mr. JOHN GENTILEMr. John Gentile (1923-2006) was born into a glass making family with his father Peter being the first. John became well known in the world of glass paperweights. John started the glass business in 1947 in Star City, West Virginia. He mainly catered to the tourist trade but over the decades that he worked with glass he perfected his paperweight trade skills and produced some very nice, interesting, and technically challenging paperweights. He was one of the first American paperweight artists to incorporate snakes and lizards. He worked with glassmaker Henry C. Johnson who made the snakes that John encased in glass. When John died in 2006, the company closed it's doors shortly thereafter. ABOUT ME I am first and foremost a collector of many different types of antiques.
