Original casting was done by the sculptor Leonard Volk in 1860. This piece is a recasting by Alva Studios from the 1950’s, and includes a plaque attached to the rear of the wrist area. The engraved type reads as follows: “This cast of the hand of Abraham Lincoln was made from the first replica of the original made at Springfield, Ill. the Sunday following his nomination to the Presidency in 1860.
