Description: Abroad with Mark Twain and Eugene Field: Tales They Told to a Fellow Correspondent. By Henry W. Fisher. Copyright 1922. Published by Nicholas L. Brown, New York, 1922. First trade edition. Hardcover with dust jacket. Edited by Merle Johnson. 246 pp. 5.5” x 8.25.” From the front cover description: “Fisher presents here the story of his intimate association in Europe with Mark Twain and relates some of those man-to-man anecdotes that found no place in his published letters or in his writings. Such anecdotes must prove to be of surpassing interest not only for themselves, but also for the new light they shed on a unique and cherished personality.” A scarce find with the original dust jacket – and the original price of $2.95 on the spine. Condition: The jacket is in a protective plastic sleeve. The interior paper of the sleeve has some foxing. The actual jacket has some light edgewear and scuffing, especially along the top of the front and the top of the spine (slightly affecting the spine title). The corners of the jacket are clipped – uncertain whether this was the original design or subsequently clipped – the price, as noted, is on the spine. The actual board covers have some light staining, bumped corners, and bumped spine edges. The inside covers / pastedowns, front and back, have fading / tanning / staining. The pages have light age toning, moreso around the edges. Light pencil erasure on ffep. The binding is lightly split in the middle of the book, but the pages are soundly holding. Otherwise, the binding is secure. No names, inscriptions or bookplates. The pages may have an occasional stain or spot, but overall, they are quite clean.
