Receiver-Drier and Accumulator The Receiver-Drier and Accumulator are tank type devices that have nearly the same external appearance. The functions of the two devices are somewhat different however.The Receiver-Drier store a refrigerant reserve to ensure a constant liquid supply to the expansion valve. A strainer and drying agent (called desiccant) are inside the receiver drier to remove moisture and clean the refrigerant.The function of the accumulator is to catch and trap liquid refrigerant from the evaporator to protect the compressor. The accumulator also contains a strainer and desiccant for refrigerant cleaning and purification.Some late model cars have the receiver drier build into condenser and sometimes the desiccant bag can be replaced by itself.Your AC System has either an Accumulator or a Receiver-Drier, not both. MUST clean A/C system with an approved (R141b and Dura Flush are approved) flush, using an approved flushing method. 2. MUST replace filter drier or accumulator. If your purchase your drier elsewhere, please save a copy of your receipt.3. MUST replace orifice tube or liquid line that contains orifice tube (if applicable).4. Inspect/replace thermostatic expansion valve & clean inlet screen (if applicable).5. Check for proper air flow through cooling fins of condenser & radiator (condenser MUST be replaced if your vehicle has a parallel flow condenser and contamination is present in the system).6. Check for proper fan clutch or electric fan operation.7. Must add correct type & amount of refrigerant oil (refer to OEM or compressor manufacturer’s specifications). Note: If condenser has the drier attached then the condenser must be changed to satisfy the proper installation requirements. Oil Note: Compressors may or may not be shipped with oil.
