Description: I’ve had this unit since buying it new in 2018 to replace the bulky older one that I bought in 2012. I have carried it wrapped in foam and sealed from moisture in my outdoor pursuits here in Idaho the last few years. Thousands of miles hiked, and back-country trails ridden. Also several winter road trips to Montana where phones don't work many places. The battery in this unit expired in 2024, and now does not pass the self test, so whoever buys this will need to have the battery replaced from a certified ACR dealer. I am very sold on the ACR units as they are the most reliable PLB and there is no fee for registering the unit with the US Government agency NOAA who reports a beacon alerting to the local search and rescue authorities. This unit also uplinks the GPS location if it can obtain it upon beacon activation.So just replace the battery in this unit and register the beacon with NOAA and you are set. Hopefully you will never need it, but if you do this is what you need to have in your pack and this unit uplinks to a different set of satellites than a phone or GPS device which may work - but not as reliable as the dedicated circuitry of a PLB. This unit is designed to transmit 24 hours at -50F and also emits a 406Mhz signal that search and rescue personal can locate on the ground in case you are in a snow cave. That is why professional hunting guides, backcountry pilots, etc. military folks and most commercial fisherman trust their lives to a PLB worldwide. I have unregistered the beacon with NOAA so registering is easy via their website or use the enclosed cards for snail mail registration.
