Description: Ernest Joseph King [1878 1956] was an American naval officer who served as Commander in Chief, United States Fleet and Chief of Naval Operations during World War II. Admiral King directed United States Navy operations, planning and was a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Listed for auction is a rare photograph signed by Admiral Ernest Joseph King to fellow admiral John J. Ballantine. Admiral Ballentine [1896 1970] was an early naval aviator who commanded the USS Bunker Hill in battle during World War II. The photograph is a formal military image, and the autograph is signed ''With all good wishes to the Ballentine's 1939 Ernest J. King'' in black fountain pen. The photograph is a b/w matte finish which measures 7.50 x 9.00 inches. The photograph was in a frame for the past 80 plus years, the left edge has some paper loss touching one letter, trivial toning otherwise in very good condition and will frame and display very nicely. Photographs signed by admiral King are not common, this example is also inscribed, addressed to a prominent U.S. admiral, dated and is a very desirable example of this noted United States naval commander.
