Here we have a silver halide photo of soldier, and musician, Christian Fleetwood. He was born in Baltimore in 1840 and was well educated. He enlisted in the Army in August 1863, and was promoted to Sergeant Major a few days later. He was a member of the 4th Regiment United States Colored Infantry. He was awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Chaffin's Farm on September 29, 1864. He passed away in 1914 at the age of 74. His Medal Of Honor citation read: Rank and organization: Sergeant Major, 4th U.S. Colored Troops Place and date: At Chapins Farm, Va., 29 September 1864 Entered service at: ------. Date of issue: 6 April 1865 Citation: Seized the colors, after 2 color bearers had been shot down, and bore them nobly through the fight.
