Albert Tibule Furcy De Lavault Signed "Chrysanthemums" Oil Painting on Canvas

Description: Albert Tibule Furcy DeLavault Signed "Chrysanthemums" Oil Painting on Canvas Marie-Albert-Tibule Furcy De Lavault was bornin Saint-Genis-de-Saintonge (Charente-Maritime), France on March 4, 1847. According to family records in the possessionof Furcy De Lavault’s descendants, he began his art education at the Collège deSaintes (in the nearby town of Saintes) by studying architectural painting. Byhis seventeenth birthday, however, he had developed symptoms of lead poisoningfrom the pigments he used. As a result, he changed course and began to studyeasel painting with a Bordelais artist known only as Savarin.Four years later, in 1868, his profession waslisted as "peintre décorateur" (decorative painter) on his marriagelicense with Marie-Louise-Chloé Bardet. Throughouthis career, he exhibited most consistently at a annual salon, submittingpaintings from 1874 to 1885, then again from 1887-1893. He also exhibited at anumber of smaller salons throughout southwestern France, including Pau, LaRochelle, Rochefort, Angoulême and Saintes.Living and working in Bordeaux during the 1870s,Furcy De Lavault initially focused his attention on portraiture. According tothe Musées d’art et d’historie in La Rochelle, the artist himself confirmedthat he began his career as a portraitist. Although most of Furcy De Lavault’s portraits are undated—and oftenundatable—the rare examples that are range from 1876 to 1896, suggesting thatthis was a genre that he returned to throughout his career. In the last years of the 1870s, Furcy De Lavaultalso turned his attention to still life painting, in particular, flowerpaintings. His interest in this type of genre image may have been prompted bythe fascination with Dutch still life paintings within the arts community orperhaps even by the ever-expanding field of botanical knowledge that wasemerging from scientific expeditions to the Americas, Africa, and SoutheastAsia. Further, artists such as Henri Biva, Eugène-Henri Cauchois, andAchille-Théodore Cesbron were already in the process of establishing successfulcareers as flower painters.Furcy De Lavault established himself in Bordeauxand the region before broadening his ambitions to a national stage with hisdebut at the Paris Salon in 1880 where two of his still life paintings wereaccepted: Fleursde Printemps (Spring Flowers) and Nature Morte (StillLife). In 1881 he exhibited Fleursd’Automne (Autumn Flowers) and in 1883, Chrysanthèmes; and in 1888, he received an Honorable Mention for a stilllife of fruits and flowers. During this decade, he also set his sights on theannual salon at Lyon, where he was represented in 1882, 1886, and from 1889 to1891. In 1887, he became a member of the Société des Artistes Français. Many of his contemporaries, such as theImpressionist and post-Impressionist group including artists Claude Monet,Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Paul Cézanne were also interested in still liferepresentation and he was influenced by this group in his treatment andexecution of the theme. Many other artists also devoted their artisticcareers to still life painting including Georges Jeannin, Eugène Claude,Madeleine Lemaire, and Henri Fantin-Latour. Still life painting offered the newlywealthy bourgeoisie an opportunity to demonstrate their cultural sophisticationand social status through the display of art; pictures such as those providedby Furcy de Lavault satisfied their desire for a unified and beautiful interiordecorating scheme. Furcy De Lavault retired from his public duties inApril of 1912 at age sixty-five. SHIPPING INFORMATION We always work hard to ensure that your parcel arrives as quickly as possible.
