Description: Reichsdruckerei’s almost impossibly precise etched recreation of the Albrecht Dürer 1514 Engraving Melencolia I. This was printed on a cream-colored laid paper of medium thickness, close to the color in first lot photo (which I took indoors). But the lines are so fine, numerous, and densely arranged, I took the the work outside to capture the clarity, which delivered the desired sharpness but made the pictures too yellow. It’s lighter than the pictures. Extremely sharp heliogravure etching of Durer’s Melencolia I engraving. As opposed to Amand Durand's often more "artistic" printing style, Reichsdruckerei wiped its plates cleanly, which really works for dense, complex images, showing individual lines off in a pretty awesome way. The accuracy they attained in the plate is amazing and this impression was pristinely printed, so the lines really sit up on the surface like the original. If an engraver wanted to create an exact copy of the original, this is the impression that would make that possible. Trimmed outside the plate marks. Corners at top left and very bottom left toned. Reichsdruckerei stamp on the reverse. Image: 9.25 inches tall x 7.3 inches wide; platemark: 9.5 x 7.5; sheet: 9.75 x 7.85. Safely shipped in archival glassine between two cardboard panels. Thank you for looking. I hope you’ll consider checking out my other listings, and enjoy your day!
