Other: Very nice Bonfils view of the La fontaine d'Elisée, Palestine near Jerusalem featuring a seated Arab man at the water edge. Examples of this image reside in the collections of the Minneapolis Museum of Arts, The Archive of the Griffith Institute of Oxford, The Blatchford Collection of the Jafet Library at the American University of Beirut, and the New York Public Library Archive. Felix Bonfils (1831-1885) was a French photographer active in the Middle East from the 1860s until his death in 1885. He created a remarkable record of the Middle East second to none. His son, Adrien took over the business upon his father’s death carrying on until around 1900. Additionally, Lydie Bonfils, Felix’s wife continued producing images after that even issuing her own catalog and remaining in the Middle East until forced to evacuate at the beginning of the First World War.
