In 1980 he began singing in the choir of Bangor Cathedral under Andrew Goodwin. He began his career at a very young age at local eisteddfods and concerts. At the Urdd Eisteddfod in 1982, he won the solo and the Cerdd Dant solo competitions for competitors under 12. Aled quickly shot to fame with his top five Christmas single Walking in The Air, which came from the animated film, The Snowman. Interestingly, it was Peter Auty, not Aled, who sang the song in that film. In 1985 he performed in front of the Queen, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dame John Sutherland and Leonard Bernstein. Several of his 16 recordings went Gold and Platinum. After attending the Royal Academy of Music, London, Aled unveiled his matured baritone voice in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat musical. He returned to television as presenter of BBC Songs of Praise. Aled has made several successful recordings as a baritone, some featuring the voices of Libera. Aled jones now presents various TV shows.
