Description: ALEXIS LEIVA MACHADO (KCHO). Painter. Draftsman.Sculptor.Contemporary Cuban Art. Cuba - 1970 • Title: Untitled • Technique: ink / paper • Measurement: 6 x 6 inches • Executed: 2021 • Signed: Kcho PROVENANCE Private collection, Havana, acquired from the original owner by the current owner. Kcho graduated from the National School of Art of Cuba and has worked in various artistic mediums such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and installations. His early professional development in the 1990s defined his line of work; the ties associated with a craft tradition passed down by his parents linked him to the use of arte povera, and being born on an island forever placed him in a marital relationship with the sea; its contradictions, fluctuations, and that immensity that moves us between peace and dread. Topics as vast as emigration or time, which corrodes and tears even the strongest steel, are metaphors that the artist assumes in his cosmogony to question beyond his environment and his era. The simple boat of a humble fisherman has become a symbol that carries all his creative anecdotes; Kcho paints as he feels, bold, with agile and precise strokes even when his topics are controversial and profound. In that restlessness for drawing, he usually prints a boat next to his signature on every paper that falls into his hands, as part of what distinguishes him.Kcho has had a prolific professional life receiving several distinctions and awards such as the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts in 1995. He has participated in the 54th Venice Biennale (2011) and in several editions of the Havana Biennale. ALEXIS LEIVA MACHADO (KCHO). Pintor. Dibujante. Escultor. La participación en la 54ª Bienal de Venecia (2011) y en varias ediciones de la Bienal de La Habana.cho has had a prolific professional life receiving several distinctions and awards such as the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts in 1995. He has participated in the 54th Venice Biennale (2011) and in several editions of the Havana Biennale.
