It was headquartered in Arlington County, Virginia, and had operations in 22 states, Puerto Rico, and other countries. ATK was formed in 1990 through the merger of Thiokol Corporation and Morton Thiokol Inc. The company was a major supplier of ammunition, rockets, missiles, and space launch vehicles to the United States military and NASA. It also had a commercial launch business and a large sporting goods division that made ammunition, firearms, and reloading equipment. In 2014, ATK announced that it would merge its Aerospace and Defense Groups with Orbital Sciences Corporation to form a new company called Orbital ATK. The company's Sporting Group was spun off as a separate company called Vista Outdoor. Orbital ATK was subsequently acquired by Northrop Grumman in 2018 and is now known as Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems. Vista Outdoor is still a publicly traded company.
