Description: Allium jesdianum is a perennial bulb in the Amaryllidaceae family. A native to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. Common names include Ornamental Onion, Ornamental Allium, and 'Michael Hoog.' Its 'Akbulak' and 'Early Emperor' cultivars gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 2016. They are also considered good plants to attract pollinators. It can grow to 30 inches tall and 12 inches wide. The strap-shaped or cylindrical basal leaves are about a foot long. The sweet-smelling flowers are a deep purple with white stamens perched above the basal leaves. An excellent flowering plant to add to your collection. It prefers to grow in full sun or part shade with little water needs. Zones 4-8 Germination Mix seeds and soil and moisten the mix slightly in a ziplock bag. Write the name of the seed on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 days. Seed should be sown into well-drained, sandy compost and covered to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in a filtered light spot and kept moist.
