Description: The fine item you are considering is an Amazing Collection Of 21 World War 2 Japanese Prisoner Of War POW Camp Letters & More. This amazing, historic collection was assembled by one Kermit S. Cuffle, who became a prisoner of war during World War Two while serving as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp, stationed in Shanghai. All this is detailed in the small newspaper clipping that Mr. Cuffle saved in the green binder pictured below. The highlight of this collection is twenty-one letters that were sent to Private Cuffle by his friends and family while he was a prisoner of war, complete with their original envelopes, with dates starting in 1943. Almost all envelopes and letters show Japanese stamping (censor approval I would guess) with some letters showing some information blacked out by the Japanese. There are also two “Prisoner Of War” post cards that were sent to Private Cuffle as well as a “Prisoner of War” Airmail for a total of 24 correspondences. The letters all seem to be addressed to “Camp Kawasaki Branch, Tokyo” but some say “Philippines” on them also, and the newspaper clipping mentions he was being held in a camp in the Philippines (see photos of envelopes). As incredible as it is that Mr. Cuffle saved this rare and historic collection of letters, this collection also includes other items, such as a hand drawn USMC Flag with an image of the USMC bulldog and Private Cuffle’s name underneath, 1943 customs declarations for his gear, a Western Union telegram from his dad telling him he had heard that his son had just gotten back to the states, some paperwork detailing Private Cuffle’s stay in a military hospital in Oakland, California, an official promotion granted Private Cuffle while he was still a POW, and much more. Mr. Cuffle went on to save a great deal more in this album from years after the war, with an additional 41 letters and cards from the 1940’s after he had returned home, along with some items dealing with returning veterans and such and some post cards from the era. All these later items are interesting and will be included in the sale, but the truly amazing part of this collection is the early correspondence sent to and received by Private Cuffle while he was a prisoner. Again, an incredible, historic collection, the likes of which you will likely never see again. Please see my photos to have a look at this nice item. Winning bidder/buyer pays $34.00 shipping and insurance in the contiguous U.S., plus $2.00 for packing materials (bubble wrap) with shipping to Alaska and Hawaii most likely costing more. Due to the large amount of items I now auction, I can unfortunately no longer allow in person pick up of items. My return policy is that returns are only accepted if I made a mistake in the listing, not disclosing a serious issue with the item, in other words, if the item is substantively different than as described in my listing.
